The Willows Are Weeping

Ice on the lawn

Sun breaks the dawn

Dark coffee to stop me from yawning

Behind my glasses so black

It’s not tears that I lack

But words

To comfort the mourning

The willows are weeping

For Gary is sleeping

The tears on their limbs start to thaw

The whole town got the blues

When they heard the sad news

All of our hearts are so sore

So much to be said

For the life which he led

The hearts which he touched on his way

I’ll tell him goodbye

And try not to cry

While I hear the tunes which he played

Take care of my mother

My sister and brothers

While I sleep beneath that old gum tree

I have Dad by my side

No pain inside

No more Waltzing Matilda for me.
